Story
Rooted in tradition, crafted for today’s table.
Freight House Tavern reopened its doors on May 9, 2025, and in just 109 days has welcomed over 4,000 guests. What began as a long-awaited reopening has quickly become a true community hub, built on familiar flavors, fresh energy, and a lot of heart.
Now operated under the ownership of Alexis Burnham (Owner & Operator), Freight House has grown into a locally driven tavern that balances tradition with progress. With a brand-new team of 43 employees trained at once, the promotion of a new Head Chef, and a full transition away from prior ownership, the tavern has embraced both the challenges and opportunities of bringing this space back to life.
The menu continues to feature guest favorites while doubling down on what matters most: farm-fresh ingredients and local partnerships. Freight House proudly sources from trusted Ohio growers and producers such as Sirna & Son’s, Dalton Farms, Paul’s Produce, Smith’s Country Counter, Burnham Orchards, S&S Maple Syrup, Salt & Flour, The Pink Loaf, Scotty’s Cheesecakes, and Shiloh’s Produce. Every plate is made from scratch, with prep starting daily at 6:30 AM to ensure fresh, hand-crafted meals.
The commitment to community doesn’t stop at the menu. In its first three months, Freight House has donated over $1,000 in gift cards to support cancer fundraisers, medical cure research, and veterans’ causes. Investments have already been made with local businesses such as Balduff’s, C&C Repairs, Rooter Rooter, Franklin Sanitation, Castillio Lawnscaping, Aaron Casey (local artist), and Kimmel Supplies. The next 90 days will bring even more improvements, including a new kitchen display system, a new roof, a rebuilt handicap ramp, and major plumbing upgrades.
Freight House Tavern is proud to be part of Norwalk’s story: here to stay, here to grow, and here because the community deserves it.
